Abstract: The Bobath concept is an approach to therapy and rehabilitation which was developed for individuals with pathophysiology of the central nervous system. The approach is used in the treatment of adults, children and infants. Originating in the work of Berta and Karel Bobath and initially developed upon clinical experience, the concept was based upon models of motor control available at that time.
This holistic approach has evolved over more than 50 years and new models of motor control and motor learning have provided the rationale for current practice. The theoretical framework of the approach continues to evolve and be enriched as new information in movement science emerges.
