Comparison of bowel function pre and post spinal cord injury

Abstract: ObjectiveTo evaluate the change of bowel function in patients with spinal cord injury(SCI).Methods70 patients with SCI were reviewed by a face to face interview survey.ResultsThere was highly significant difference between pre and post SCI patients in bowel symptoms, defecation frequency, defecation time, success rate of defecation, toilet dependency and methods of opening bowel.Conclusions There is a high incidence of bowel disorder in patients after SCI. More intensive bowel care programs should be provided for SCI patients.
