Effect of phenol block on spastic cerebral palsy

Abstract: ObjectiveTo study the long-time effect of phenol block on relaxation to spasticity in the patients with cerebral palsy.Methods42 children with spastic cerebral palsy were treated by phenol block.The age ranged from 2 to 17 years.74 peripheral nerves were blocked with 5% phenol solution.The capacity of injection ranged from 0.5ml to 4.6 ml,average 2.2 ml.Results66 phenol blocks were successful.The muscle tone turned below and the movement functions were improved.The effective rate was 89.2% and the marked rate was 59.5%.The side effects was few. ConclusionsPhenol block has advantages of quick relaxation of spasticity, high selectivity,simplicity,safety and cheap expenditure.
