Correlation between the functions of affected upper limb and activities of daily living in hemiplegia patients

Abstract: ObjectiveTo investigate the correlation between the functions of affected upper limb and activities of daily living (ADL) in hemiplegia patients. Methods61 stroke patients received occupational therapy. Their functional level and ADL was assessed by Twitchell Brunnstrom in terms of recovery stages and Barthel Index (BI). ResultsThere was statistical significant difference on the functions of affected upper limb before and after treatment (P<0.001).The correlation between the functions of affected upper limb, hand function, practicability of hand and ADL had shown positive result (P<0.01).ConclusionThere was positive result on the correlation between functions of affected upper limb, hand function, practicability of hand and ADL.
