Abstract: ObjectiveTo investigate the difference of urodynamic characteristics of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) occurred between premenopausal and postmenopausal adult women.Methods140 adult female SUI patients (71 premenopausal cases and 69 postmenopausal cases) were examined with filling cystometry, abdominal leak point pressures (ALPP) and urethral pressure profile (UPP). The urodynamic parameters of each patient were analyzed and the results of two groups were compared.ResultsThe ALPP of premenopausal group was much higher than that of postmenopaudal group (80±28 cmH2O vs 64±27 cmH2O;P<0.01). The percentage of ALPP under 60 cmH2O in premenopausal group was much more than postmenopaudal group (21.2% vs 37.7%; P<0.05); the percentage of ALPP above 90 cmH2O were much less (29.6% vs 11.6%;P<0.05). While, maximum urethral pressure (MUP), maximum urethral closure pressure (MUCP) and continence area (CA) showed significant differences (P<0.05), neither functional urethral length (FUL) nor continence zone length (CZL) showed any statistic difference between the two groups. There were 5 cases combined with urodynamic overactive bladder in premenopausal group and 19 cases in postmenopaudal group. There was a significant difference between two groups (P<0.01).ConclusionSUI occurred in premenopausal and postmenopausal women has different urodynamic characteristics and pathogenesis.
