International Spinal Cord Injury Data Sets: Basic Pain Data Set

Abstract: Chronic pain is one of the most frequently reported reasons for reduced quality of life following spinal cord injury. Now a standardized way to collect data concerning pain in persons with SCI is lacking, which is important for the studying of pain mechanism and the evaluating of the outcome of treatment. The purpose of the International Spinal Cord Injury Pain Data Set is to standardize the collection and reporting of pain in the SCI population. This article describes each variable included in the Basic Pain Data Set in detail and how to fill in the Basic Pain Data Set forms by using 3 cases.
