Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical effects and safety of fastigial nucleus stimulation (FNS) combined with drugs on depression. Methods 60 patients with depression were randomly assigned into the FNS combined with drug group (treatment) group (n=30) andthe drug group (n=30). Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) were used to evaluate the effects, and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale (TESS) was used to evaluate the safety before and after treatment. Results The total effective rateof the treatment group (83%) was higher than that of the drug group (60%) (P<0.05). The HAMD of the treatment group decreased in theend of the 2th and 4th week after treatment compared with the drug group (P<0.05). The PSQI was lower in the treatment group than in thedrug group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between two groups with TESS (P<0.05). Conclusion FNS combined with drugscan improve depression and insomnia of depression patients.
