Abstract: Objective To observe the effect of electroacupuncture on nerve root of sacral spinal nerve 3 for detrusor hyperreflexia after spinal cord injury. Methods 32 spinal cord injury patients with detrusor hyperreflexia accepted electroacupuncture at sacral 3 nerve root.Their voiding diary, urodynamics and quality of life were observed before and 8 weeks after treatment. Results The frequency of urination, urine leakage, and filling the final detrusor pressure decreased (P<0.05), and the urine output, maximum bladder capacity, bladder compliance, score of quality of life increased (P<0.05) after treatment. There was no significant change in residual urine volume after treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion Electroacupuncture on nerve root of sacral spinal nerve 3 is effective on detrusor hyperreflexia after spinal cord injury.
