Advance of Exercise Prescription in Aging Sarcopenia and Osteoporosis (review)

Abstract: Aging is associated with loss of muscle (sarcopneia) and bone (osteoporosis), resulting in an impaired capacity to perform daily activities, furthermore might progress to the extent that an older person loses his or her ability to live independently. Recent studies showed that exercise had remarkable beneficial effects on the musculoskeletal system, including prevention and treatment of these syndromes. Based on the recent research achievement, this paper reviewed exercise prescription in aging sarcopenia and osteoporosis, the result revealed resistance training is the most effective measure to prevent and treat sarcopenia and osteoporosis. In addition, long periods of walking or jogging for over half a year can increase leg muscle size in older adults.
