Research on Measurement and Statistics, and Social Support and Services for Intellectual Disability

Abstract: Objective To explore ICF-based measurement and statistical methods, and social support and service systems of intellectual disability. Methods ICF theories and approaches and literature review were applied. Results Based on the theories of function and disability in ICF, intellectual disability was characterized by the impairment of intellectual function and significant limitations in adaptive behavior, and onset before 18 years old. Based on the theories of intellectual disability in ICF, this study rebuilt the framework of intellectual disability, and modified the measure of intellectual disability by assessing the body function and measuring activities and participation to assess intellectual function and adaptive behavior, while analyzing the social support and service systems via environment factors. This study also discussed related problems about the prevalence of intellectual disability. Conclusion New conceptual framework, measurement and statistical method of intellectual disability based on the theories and methods of ICF was discussed and the social support and service systems were integrated into the environmental factor of intellectual disability.
